Anglo-Portuguese News "One cannot but welcome the publication of Art and Patronage in Eighteenth-Century Portugal by Angela Delaforce. The book is neither a general history of Portuguese art nor, in view of its depth and scope, a simple study of patronage.". Some of the books are listed twice, under the Portuguese title and the English title, such as Saramago's The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis at # and # Maybe this is ok, but seems like they could be combined somehow.

Portuguese writers have battled against their cultural marginalization on the European scene and have produced startlingly original works of literature which deserve to be ranked with the classics of the literary canon. From Pessoa to Saramago, Portuguese novels are typically obscure and tempestuous meditations on life; Lindsay Parnell picks the five greatest Portuguese writers. Our books are printed either in English, Portuguese, or bilingual editions. Whether you seek reference, fiction, non-fiction, or poetry, we are confident you will find the publication of your preference. If you are planning a book presentation, or sales event in your area, or you are hoping to have your story published, please let us know.

The Second Battle of Porto, also known as the Battle of the Douro or the Crossing of the Douro, was a battle in which General Arthur Wellesley's Anglo-Portuguese Army defeated Marshal Nicolas Soult's French troops on 12 May and took back the city of Porto. After taking command of the British troops in Portugal on 22 April, Wellesley (later named 1st Duke of Wellington) immediately. José Maria de Eça de Queiroz and José Saramago brought Portugal quite a bit of attention in the world of literature during the 19 th and 20 th centuries respectively. José Queiroz was known as a naturalist and realist who sought to influence (and change) the Portuguese political and social systems through his writing. The worldwide spotlight really shone on Portuguese literature, however.
